From the Outside In

One homeless man’s desire to take photographs has given life to an event that shows insider views of outsider’s lives. William “Termite” Hardy’s driving passion led us to procure a camera for him and then ask local artists for help. Aron Belka and E Paul Julien came to Grace at the Greenlight, served breakfast to our participants and worked with William on his view as an artist. They were given insider access under the bridge to see how people live and structure their lives when they have no home. Each artist has created pieces based on their experience. LeMieux Gallery will celebrate William’s photographs that showcase the work of Aron Belka and E Paul Julien. The pieces sold will benefit Grace at the Greenlight.
Last year, Hardy participated in the “My New Orleans” photo project to help share the stories of those affected by homelessness. Participants were given disposable cameras donated by Fuji Film to take pictures around the city. Heather Milton, who organized the project, said they’re setting up for Round II, with cameras to be distributed again in May.
