Why Arts & Homelessness?

Homelessness is not just about housing: it is the result of myriad circumstances including unemployment, relationship breakdown and mental health issues. Homelessness causes many challenges, from isolation to poor health. With multiple challenges, multiple solutions are needed: involvement in the arts is one of them.

Access to arts and culture is a human right (UN Charter Article 27). Our Literature Review of Arts and Homelessness 2019 showed that of 61 projects that we studied around the world, all delivered at least one of the following benefits to members who were homeless: Resilience, agency, skills and well-being.
