Historically, homelessness support was top-down. Too often, organisations in the sector are run by people who have never been homeless and are making decisions ‘on behalf’ of homeless people.
At AHI, we are co-produced and part of our staff has a lived experience of homelessness. We try to bring equity around decision- making so that services are created with people not for them.
We run capacity building with staff in homelessness/housing teams in local governments around co-creation. At present we are working with Coventry City Council and Haringey Borough Council to create new Rough Sleeping Strategies with people who are homeless. We are also working with those teams to embed homeless people more into the day-to-day decision-making processes.
